The Mathematical Conversations (Matematični Pogovori) Seminar, is organized jointly at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana (UL FMF) and the Institute of Mathematics, Physics, and Mechanics (IMFM).

The concept of the seminar involves short talks (35-40 minutes plus discussion) for a general audience of mathematics researchers. These talks are usually not about the speaker’s own research results. Rather, speakers present some interesting mathematical concept, object, theorem, etc. from their own research area or something they simply find interesting and want to share with a wider audience. Ideally the talks should encourage questions and discussions. Similar types of exposition can be found in the “What is…?” column of the AMS Notices.

The speakers are mostly postdocs or advanced PhD students from UL FMF, IMFM, and other faculties. Since we are having an increasing number of international postdocs, the main idea for this seminar is to enable interaction between and with them. Accordingly, the tradition of the seminar is also for speakers to include a short bit about themselves at the beginning of their talk.

Time: Wednesdays 12:15 -13:00 in Jadranska ulica 21, room 3.06., roughly every second week.
